Success Story
The Challenge
With the Indigenous economy ready to boom and Indigenous tourism a rising star, the Lheidli T’enneh (LTN) had significant tourism assets that it wanted to sustainably develop in keeping with traditional values and cultural norms. Special to the territory is the Ancient Forest, the only inland temperate rainforest in the world. Thanks to a $9M partnership project, the Lheidli T’enneh are developing the park to feature a world-class interpretive centre, trails, and new opportunities for recreation and cultural engagement.
Our Answer
Travel Local parent company Indigenous Worx deployed destination development solutions that fit the client's Indigenous world view. Working directly with a steering committee of Elders and knowledge keepers surfaced the most relevant Indigenous protocols and allowed these to set priorities and limits. Expert sector, operations and financial analysis ensured that ideas were feasible and set the stage to work collaboratively. Using the plan as a playbook, we helped develop a new logo for the Ancient Forest that celebrates local Indigenous artistic traditions, produced emotionally engaging storytelling videos, delivered entrepreneurship training that inspired a local entrepreneur to start a cultural tour, and sparked House of Ancestors’ conference centre operational improvements that are returning it to profitability.
