Success Story

The Challenge

After 20 years of false starts, Grande Cache was ready to invest heavily in tourism and take advantage of Travel Alberta’s new dispersion strategy. A gem in the Canadian Rockies with immense potential, previous destination development initiatives had failed to galvanize the community around a positive focus leaving many local champions deflated and community well-being vulnerable to the boom-and-bust economy of resource extraction.


Our Answer

Travel Local applied its new destination development model and principles focused on developing local economy solutions. Community engagement and research methods were designed to lift community members out of their negative thought patterns and focus the discussion on strengths and assets that were under-utilized or held the most potential. Shared values research and analysis put place making front and centre and gave the community newfound confidence and trust that ideas fit their values and protected their destination from over-tourism and degradation. For the first time in decades, Grande Cache has a destination development and marketing focus designed for the 21st century that the community believes in.
